Introduction:

I learnt the formula of Flying Star Feng Shui many decades ago. It now appears to be the de-rigueur for those who practise Classical Feng Shui.

This is my analysis of Flying Star Feng Shui.

My Interpretation

Shen Zhu Ren, in his book “Mr Shen’s Study of Xuan Kong”, describes his study of gravesites of successful families. He was a feng shui enthusiast who did not receive formal practitioner training but read and critic many books.

The Flying Star Feng Shui formula provides a “destiny” reading for the property. Shen used a simplified version of QiMen DunJia with its rotating nine palaces and the variable of the time dimension.

The aim is to align the Energy in the property with the current Energy flows in the external environment. It starts by getting the appropriate Natal Chart of the property.

The appropriate Natal Chart - two requirements are necessary:

  • The compass direction of the front door
  • The Period of the property.

The Compass Direction of the Front Door

In Chinese properties (buildings and tombs), the front door is in the front or facing of the property. However, in modern properties, the front door or main door can be at the side of the property or at an angle to the “face” of the property.

Secondly, when you are in an apartment block, where is your front door? The entrance to the building or your front door to the apartment?

The Age or Period of the Property.

This is a complex issue. It is best is for me to narrate a hypothetical story:

The newly built property was purchased in 1980. This is in Period 6. (1964 to 1984)

In 1990, the owners, on the advice of a flying star feng shui consultant, decided to upgrade the feng shui of the property as they were doing major renovations.

The roof was removed so that the current Period 7 (1984-2004) energy was allowed to fill the property. The consultant prepared the Period 7 natal chart and carried out the necessary adjustments to the property.

In 2010, the property was sold. This is in Period 8 (2004 to 2024)

There are two lines of thought on the interpretation of the Period of the property.

  1. The property remains in old Period 7 when the roof was removed.
  2. There are new owners. Therefore, the Period of property changes to the current Period 8.

This is an area of debate.

Let me refer you to some basic facts.

  1. Shen Zhu Ren had made an extensive study of the grave tombs of successful families in his region of China. In his book – “Mr Shen’s Study of Xuan Kong” where described Flying Star Feng Shui, he did not clearly state whether the application was for both “yang” or living properties and “yin”, dead in graves or either.
  2. In a Chinese Grave, the entrance for the coffin is the front tombstone. The consultant practising “yin Feng Shui” had made the following decisions: The location of the gravesite and the compass direction of the tombstone to prepare the Natal Chart. The time of the burial for the future success of the future generations is determined by methods of "Date selection for Auspicious Timings".
Chinese grave
This is a Chinese Grave. The curved structure at the back is the “hill” and in front of that is the grass covering the topsoil which is over the coffin. Then there is the tombstone marked “A”. This tombstone is removed so that the coffin can slide in. The tombstone is sealed thereafter.

3. Secondly, should the remains be needed to be exhumed for family reasons, the topsoil behind the tombstone is taken out to get to the remains. When the remains are returned to the gravesite, the topsoil is replaced. A new natal chart is prepared.

4. In a living property, the residents move in and out using the exterior doors. They open the windows to allow fresh air to come in. With these actions, would the Energy of the current Period from the environment by entering the property?

In my opinion, the requirements for Flying Star Feng Shui are more relevant to a Chinese grave tomb rather than a living property for people?

In my opinion, these fundamental uncertainties did not build any confidence in using the Flying Star Feng Shui in my learning of Feng Shui.
