London became the capital city after the Norman conquest in 1066 AD. London grew with time to become the centre of an empire. Now, it is more of a centre for Commerce and Finance.

There is only one way for the Energy to leave London. It is the estuary of the River Thames, which discharges the water into the North Sea.

Secondly, the road system was based on pathways used since ancient times. These roads curve and meander.

Of course, the exceptions are the straight Roman roads. Several major trunk roads are based on these Roman Roads, like the famous Oxford Street – a street renowned for its retail establishments.

1. Architecture - London has a wide range of buildings of different ages.

The older buildings have small rooms with small windows.

The more recent buildings have large open spaces and plenty of glass walls, presumably to let the sunlight and the views.

2. Properties built on land.

London has the usual distribution where the living densities are higher toward the city's centre and decrease further out you get.

Therefore, towards the centre, there are more high-rise buildings and, in the suburbs, there are more landed properties like terraced or detached/semi-detached properties/

The further you go towards the countryside, the more individual properties are on large plots of land.

In the 1930s, there was a massive expansion in the creation of the suburbs in outer London with the creation of London's rail network. These properties are all landed either detached or semi-detached. But now, high-rise properties are being developed in these areas.

Before the 1930s, residential properties in the suburbs were mainly terraced.

3. Commercial Property: Wide variety in London

In central London, offices are located in high-rise buildings, such as tower blocks or tall buildings lining the streets.

Further out of the centre, the commercial buildings are on low-rise buildings of 2 to 3 floors.

Then there are the out-of-town parks – they could be supermarkets, a collection of stores, offices, warehouses or garages.

The point is - there is a significant variety of commercial buildings in London.

Some of the richest people in the World reside in London, so the most expensive properties are in the most expensive areas of London.

On the other hand, there is poverty, with a high density of people living tightly in smaller properties.

The land might have been used previously—as a burial site, a workshop or factory, or a toxic material dump. However, there is usually no documented history of the past use.

It is easier in the suburbs. It is usually farmland.
