Feng Shui Bedroom Colours
Dr. Michael Oon
This is a handy guide using Feng Shui to suggest the primary colour in your bedroom. The colour is determined by your year of birth.
Using the Eight Mansions Formula, every person has a Kua number based on your year of birth (from 4th February to 3rd February of the next year). There are 9 Kua numbers which cycle continuous. They are different for Male and Female.
Each Kua number has an element like wood, water, fire, earth, metal. Each element has a related colour.
Benefits of using the Feng Shui bedroom colour:
According to the 8 mansions formula, this is your natural element and the colour is a representation of this element.
Therefore, you will feel most comfortable with the suggested colour. As you will be spending at least 8 hours a day with it, you will get better sleep and therefore, better rested. As a result, you will be able to prepare yourself, both physically and mentally, to do better and take on the challenges of the next day.
How to use the colour: It would be totally overpowering to have the room walls and the bed colours in the same colour. This makes the room too yang – unbalanced.
You could have different shades or use the colour as the primary colour in the pattern.
Feng Shui is about being evenly balanced or in harmony. You do not want one colour to overpower everything else.
Let us start with an example:
A Female born in 18th February 1960.
Looking at the various charts, she is kua 2. The element being Yang Earth and the associated colour is Dark Yellow or Ochre.
The bedroom walls can be painted a shade dark yellow/ochre colour and the bed clothes could be a pattern with the dark shade of yellow.
Feng Shui is about balance, do not over do the colours.

To summarise
Your Kua number | Preferred colour |
1 | Black |
2 | Dark yellow or Ochre |
3 | Light Green |
4 | Dark Green |
5 male | Dark Yellow, Orche |
5 female | Light Yellow |
6 | Dark Red, Black or Silver |
7 | White |
8 | Yellow or Beige |
9 | Red or Purple |
This does not mean that the whole room is painted with a solid colour. For example Black will be too yin and Red will be too yang. There is no balance.
These suggested colours are the main colours that can be used in a patter or design. This will enable the balance, so necessary in Feng Shui, to be achieved.
