8 Tips for Feng Shui Bed Placement
Dr. Michael Oon
The bedroom is an important because we humans, spend at least 8 to 9 hours a day there in a different state – asleep. We are vulnerable and the body is resting.
Here are 8 tips on the bed placement.
- Command Position
This is the most important factor in the feng shui bed placement. The human body needs sleep for the body to recuperate from the day exertion and the preparation for the next day. The better the quality of the sleep, the better the recuperation and better prepared for the next day.
Hence, the bed is the main focus of the bedroom and hence the importance in the placement. When the bed is in that placement, the body follows.
2. Away from the bedroom door
The bed must not be placed in line with the bedroom door. This is known as the death position as the “dead body” is taken out in this manner.
3. Away from the bathroom.
The head of the bed is to be placed away from the adjoining wall to the bathroom. Especially important that it is not next to the WC. This is where the waste material is flushed down and you do not what your head to be next to it.
4. Level ceiling
Meaning – no bump or humps – no beams, uneven ceiling or pitched ceiling or overhead cupboards.
The energy circulates around the around the room. It also flows from the floor to the ceiling and down again. If there is any change to the surface in the ceiling, it would disrupt the smooth flow. If you have a ceiling beam, the energy would be forced to flow downward. This creates an uneven flow of the energy.
When there is an uneven flow and it moves down to the bed. There can be “uncomfortable” areas of the bed. The person would not be able to sleep well in these parts.
Secondly, I have been to a number of residential properties where the ceiling beam is above the centre of the bed. The couples have had an uncomfortable relationship since they used that bed with the above beam.
Thirdly, at one time, it was very popular to have cupboards hanging directly above the head of the bed. This definitely not recommended.
Fourthly, the bed should be beneath a pitched ceiling.
5. The bed is to have sufficient clearance above the floor.
This is to allow the energy to flow around the room smooth. The bed with sufficient clearance will allow the energy to flow smoothly beneath the bed and around the room.
Hence, using the principles of feng shui, it is not recommended to sleep on the floor even if you have a very comfortable mattress.
6. Windows
The bed should not be positioned beneath the windows. The window will allow a draft of colder air to the top of the bed. This disrupts the flow of energy circulating the room and also, gives the person a flow of cold air. This can be uncomfortable during the sleep.
7. The head of the bed against the Wall
External wall – that should be fine.
Internal wall – the head of the bed should not be placed again or near the WC. It is not very good to have your head to where the human waste is flushed away. It is also, not a good practise in Feng Shui.
8. A single bed
A single bed can have 2 sides of the bed be placed against the walls. As only one person sleeps on the bed, the is one side where the person can leave the bed.
With a double bed, there has to be 2 sides for each person to leave the bed. If one side of the bed is against the wall, it is not very practical for one person to climb over another person to get out.
