Dr Michael Oon – The Feng Shui Consultant in London, is familiar with the characteristics of London. London is not only a large city but also has a varied topography, complex infrastructure, 20 centuries of continuous history, and a wide range of commercial and residential properties. It has a diverse population of about 9.7 million (2024).
Most importantly, this global City has an iconic river flowing through it: the River Thames, which gives London its vital energy.
The Feng Shui Consultant in London has the tools, skills, and relevant experience to handle projects in this large and complex City. The consultant must also deal with the various types of properties in the different terrains of London.
This post introduces the various aspects of London that the consultant has to deal with. These are considerations that affect the property.
This includes:
a. Hills, rivers and canals, lakes and reservoirs, forests and common land.
b. The complex infrastructure – roads, railways etc
c. Health Issues
d. The varied nature of Property in London
1. The Feng Shui Consultant in London
I have been trained and mentored by a lineage Feng Shui Master (Shyan Tseng). The principal method is energy flow in the surrounding environment. The skill is to use this energy to benefit the property's residents.
No two properties are alike. Even when neighbouring properties have identical designs, I understand that different people live in these houses. Therefore, the interior layout and exterior will be different. I respect and understand that no two persons are the same, and this understanding is reflected in my work.
I am very much 'old school'. I believe in the power of personal contact. I interact with the client and personally visit the property to feel the energy and see the landform. This personal touch makes my clients feel valued and important, and it allows me to gather more information from these visits to give accurate recommendations that benefit my clients.
I practice Traditional Feng Shui, which started some 4,000 years ago. It is based on the energy flows in the environment. The consultation is about the energy flow in the site and how it relates to the person.
The recommendations I give the client are personalised and specific to the client and their property. They are unique, a one-off. Also, I can deal with queries on the spot that are accurate and relevant, resolving potential misunderstandings on the spot.
I can identify Geopathic Stress (reference) at the client's premises. These energy lines can cause poor sleep, tiredness and, potentially, ill health.
Many Feng Shui consultants are trained to apply one or two formulas to all the properties they encounter. Can they cope with London's wide range of properties and different terrain?
Secondly, some consultants offer their services worldwide. They provide remote consultations through Zoom or personal chats. They have their market, but do they offer a personal service? Do they have the necessary information on your property?
From my enquiries, they are just reading from their charts based on the compass reading provided by the client or Google Earth.
There is an effect called magnetic declination. This is the angle between true north (based on the charts of longitude) and magnetic north (the north where the compass needle points). The locations of the true North Pole and the magnetic North Pole are different. Therefore, there will be parts of the world where the difference can be as significant as 15 degrees. This is observed in Western USA in cities like San Francisco or Los Angeles.
Magnetic declination in London is 2 degrees.
Therefore, when you have a large declination and use two different methods, you will get a different compass orientation for the property. This is not satisfactory.
A skilled craftsperson has a good range of tools in their "toolbox or playbook" to do the job properly. They are well-trained artisans with years of experience who take great pride in their work. They keep up to date with world events and monitor changes. They are not there to market themselves blatantly and do as many jobs as possible.
A less skilled person would try to get away by using one or two skills. Perhaps they could be called handypersons.
Another example:
A skilled chef can prepare food using basic fresh ingredients and the various kitchen facilities to prepare a good and healthy meal. You then know what has gone into the food preparation.
Compare this with a home cook who uses frozen or pre-prepared meals that need to be heated up for eating. You do not know what has gone into the meal—is it healthy, but might it be tasty because of artificial taste enhancers?
2. London is Large

London is old. There are records of it in Roman times, some 2000 years ago, when it was known as Londinium. Since then, London has had a continuous history.
London is a global city—one of the most well-known in the world—and it is very much like New York, Los Angeles, and Tokyo.
London properties are varied. There is a vast range of residential properties, from £200k to over £100 million. They are not only a wide range of sizes (floor area), but also styles and types (apartments, terraced, semi-detached, detached, bungalows, mansions, etc.). Secondly, different areas of London have different prices.
3. London's stock property is varied.

Of the 32 boroughs, 12 are Inner London boroughs, 20 are Outer London boroughs and the City of London (the financial district)-
The 12 inner London boroughs are within the centre of London and have a higher housing density. Space is at a premium. The housing stock is generally older, but some areas need regeneration.
The 20 outer London boroughs have more space, different architecture and feeling.
The housing stock is newer and better maintained.
London has 651 towns. Each town is a built-up area with defined boundaries, with its own neighbourhood, business, and shopping area.
Each town has a character and, therefore, different energies with different types of buildings and people.
4. London's infrastructure is large and varied.

Then, there are wide open spaces. They could be parks like Hyde Park, forests like Epping Forest, or lands like Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park.
London has a complex web of roads for cars, lorries, and buses and a huge network of rail lines and underground trains.
London is essentially a river plain surrounded by a circle of hills. The land within these hills is flat, but there are several hills and valleys.
London is Changing.

The profile of shops on the street has changed - more candy and vape stores with many shop closures.
Major departmental stores are not as busy as previously. Some have closed, such as Debenhams.
2. The Gentrification of previously "poorer" areas
Peckham, Balham, Brixton
3. London's South Bank has changed
Vauxhall, Nine Elms, Battersea, Wandsworth, Woolwich
4. Shoreditch and surrounding areas
It is an area for high-technology industries.
New trends in prepared foods come from this area.
New start-up restaurants.
5. The number of skyscrapers in the City of London has increased. Many have sky bars that are good for viewing.
The Shard, at 310 metres, was the tallest building in Europe until 2012.
6. The population has increased from 6.8 (1981) to 8 million (2022). so has the ethnic diversity. 46% of people living in London are ethnic minorities.
7. The trend in shopping is changing. Delivery of physical goods and prepared food has grown considerably. The number of delivery vans and motorcycles with food boxes behind them travelling on the roads is a new phenomenon.
8. The roads are different. There are more lanes for cycles and restrictions for higher-polluting vehicles. Roads are more congested even with a congestion charge for central London.
5. The Feng Shui Consultant in London has to deal with a large and varied city.
