This combination of numbers has derived from the two rivers – Luo and the Hwang Ho (Yellow River).
This has been interpreted to the current He Tu Diagram.
|1 & 6||North||Water|
|2 & 7||South||Fire|
|3 & 8||East||Wood|
|4 & 9||West||Metal|
This can be simplified – Commonly known as the He Tu Diagram.
If you look at the He Tu Square, you see the combinations, 7-2 = 5; 9-4= 5; 6-1 = 5; 8-3 = 5.
The point is, when the larger number subtracts the smaller number, the end result is 5, which is in the centre.
Secondly, you will see these combinations in the Lo Shu Square
Note the combination of numbers in the Lo Shu Square:
1,6 (North) – Blueline
3,8 (East) – Greenline
4,9 (South) – Redline
2,7 (West) – Yellow line
These combinations of numbers are frequently used in the application of Feng Shui.
Another point of note:
If you add up the even numbers and the clockwise sequence –
2 + 4 + 6 + 8 = 20
1 + 3 + 7 + 9 = 20
Note that 5 in the centre is excluced.
