I will deal with the three areas separately.

The Kitchen area.

The Eight Mansions Formula states that it is the direction of where the fuel goes into the cooker.

In the past when life was simpler. It is the direction that the fuel (wood) goes into the burner. In the image, the wood is carried to the front of the stove.

In the modern day cooker, the gas pipe or electricity cable comes from the wall. It is the direction of the gas pipe from wall that matters.

According to the Eight Mansions Formula, every person has four favourable or beneficial compass directions and four unfavourable or non-beneficial compass directions.

Each person has a Kua number which is based on your year of birth. The Kua numbers range from 1 to 9. Each has a unique set of favourable and unfavourable directions.

The compass directions are the four primary compass directions (North, East, West and South) and the secondary directions (Northeast, Southeast Northwest and Southwest).

The person has to face the particular compass direction to get the effect of this formula.

To get your Kua number, there is an automated system with this link. Just put in your month and year of birth.

 The four beneficial directions are

  1. Sheng Qi – Prosperity Direction

This direction is for prosperity, good fortune and success. People in Business especially should tap in this direction to advance their wealth acquisition.

2.            Tien Yi – Health Direction

This is the direction for improving your health

3.            Nien Yen – Relationship Direction

If you are looking for a relationship or maintaining a relationship, this is the direction to go for.

4.            Fu Wei – Personal Growth Direction

The direction for furthering one’s personal growth

 Non-beneficial Directions

1.            Huo Hai – Bad luck Direction

This direction leads to struggle and failure, which brings hardship and bad luck to one’s life

2.            Wu Gui – Five Ghosts Direction

Negative Energy leads to deceit and backstabbing.

3.            Liu Shi – Six Killings Direction

The direction spoils all relationships, albeit professional or personal.

4.            Jueh Ming – Total Loss Direction

In practice, it is best to use or face one of the beneficial directions and avoid any of the less beneficial compass directions.

 The priorities.

In theory, all the appliances that are installed, the fuel (electricity and gas pipes) have to come from the preferred direction of the head of the household.

I have been to a property that had interpreted the Eight Mansions Formula strictly. In their newly expanded and refurbished kitchen, there was a long bench. All the fixed and table topped equipment were in a long line, with all the power line and gas pipes coming from the best direction of the head of the household. However, the person who used the equipment said that it was not practical as she had to walk a lot from one end to the other.

This arrangement is simply not practical as most kitchens do not have the space to accommodate the equipment in this manner.

In the Living Room

The members of the household can sit in their beneficial directions. This can be done by sitting in their “nominated” seats in the living area for watching the television, playing electronic games, having conversations or whatever activity they might be involved in.

In the Dining Room

At the Dining table, they can select seats that face their beneficial directions whilst eating their meals.

The head of the household selects the most suitable position that fits the best direction and the layout of the dining room table.

It is best for the person preparing the meal to sit nearest the kitchen. But again, it depends on personal preferences.
