The UK Banking Hierarchy, Head Office Buildings and feng shui - city
The City of London – The financial district of London

It was quite enlightening when I read this blog by Robert Preston earlier this year. This was 2009 results for the major UK banks.

Before 2008, HSBC was the largest bank but Barclays and RBS were slightly behind with Lloyds and Standard Chartered further behind,

However, the landscape is so different after the 2009 results. HSBC is valued at GBP 120bn whereas the other banks, Barclays (GBP 37 bn), Lloyds (GBP 34 bn) and Standard Chartered (GBP 32bn) are in the same league but with the infamous RBS at about GBP 21 bn. In fact, HSBC is in a league of its own.

I have written about its Head Office in both Hong Kong and London and noticed that the buildings are in concordance with the rules of feng shui.

I thought that it would be appropriate to see how the Head Office of the other Banks fall into the rules of feng shui. One of the most basic rules – the building is to have a regular shape – either square or rectangular. Anything deviating from this basic layout is considered a negative.

Methodology: All I did was to check the building shape using Google Earth. The image are shown

Lloyds – mainly a regular shape but with some missing areas in the South.
Lloyds had just taken over HBOS (Halifax Bank of Scotland) which had got into serious banking problems. In other words, Lloyds was fine but was pulled down by HBOS.

RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland). Definitely not a regular shape.

The banks that had most problems in the 2008 crisis – HBOS and RBS. Their buildings were not regular. HBOS had quite a complicated building but had added corners in the South East and the South West.
The RBS building was really complicated. An aerial view looks like an insect.

The images are self evident.
We have seen – Banks that have performed weil; with stood the financial shocks have regular shaped buildings.
