Congratulations Ed. You won a long and hard fought campaign.
You beat your elder brother by a slim 1.3% of the vote cast. Well done.
In my opinion, your brother David did not deserve to become leader.
He had 3 opportunities to become the next leader of the Labour Party but he hesitated. Becoming a leading of the nation is not for the faint hearted. Either you commit or you do not.
Opportunity One:
June 2007 – Blair leaves as prime minister. David was seen as heir apparent of the centre of Blairite Labour. He believed that he could not win against Gordon Brown.
He hesitated.
Opportunity Two:
June 2009 – James Purnell (work and pensions secretary) quit and said that Brown could not win the election.
He hesitated
Opportunity Three:
Jan 2010 – Geoff Hoon and Patricia Hewitt attempted a coup to coup to oust Brown
He hesitated.
David Milliband had three opportunities to become leader. All three times, he hesitated. He does not deserve to be leader of the Labour Party.
