Apple Inc has just applied for planning permission for a new headquarters in their home town of Cupertino, California. It is said to be like a space ship or a doughnut. It is 4 floors high, with a floor area of 3 million sq ft and a capacity of 12,000 people working there. There will not be a straight piece of glass and has an expected move-in date of 2015.
It is huge!
What would the new building do for Apple Inc? Would it be an indicator for a change or new era?
I have previously stated that technology companies are one hit wonders with the exception of Apple Inc under the leadership of Steve Jobs.
Secondly, I have commented previously on circular buildings, particularly
the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking is a circular building. Circular buildings have inherent problems – their work gets delayed and can encounter misfortune or bad luck.
For McLaren, at the start of 2011 Formula 1 season, they did not appear to get the car working properly in the March testing session in Spain. It was by sheer hard work that they had reliable and fast cars in for the Australian Grand Prix in 27th March. They were extremely fortunate that the Bahrain Event scheduled for 13th March was called off.
Apple, with Steve Jobs at the helm, at their headquarters at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, CA. has always been the forerunner in the technology field. These buildings are more or less “standard” or regular shaped building ringed by the “Infinite loop” road.
Feng Shui perspective of the Doughnut building
1. Circular buildings –
Delays in the work.
To be a leader in this field, there is the need to work smart, hard and fast.
Can Apple overcome the inherent “delay” problems in the building and retain the technological leadership?
2. The centre of the building is open. There is no heart to the building.
This is particularly important for Apple Inc. Apple does not market their products directly, they market their soul or their philosophy which is challenging the status quo and being able think differently. That is why Apple can sell not only computers but other products like music, music players which no other company computer can.
This message of their philosophy will be affected.
3. Moving to a new building is always fraught with risk as shown by

Everything in Nature is based on Cycles. Will we see a change in the change in the technological leadership of Apple after they move to their new “doughtnut” headquarters?
